There is some confusion about Bachata & what can be called Bachata.
So we will try to clear up a few things.

There are three major styles of Dominican Bachata.

What you learn at the Salsa Congresso's is not Dominican Bachata but Salsa-Bachata.

Master level Bachata does not feature the advanced couple turns that you see in Salsa.
It does not need to.
Master level Bachata is a dance of beauty & skill that can equal or surpass Salsa.

We will try to give you a clear understanding of what style of Bachata we will review here.

This is our recommended Must buy dvd series on Bachata.

This is the finest series on Latin dancing we have ever seen.

Salsagood has done it again by producing the first Master level instruction dvd on Bachata.

This series is packed full of demo's, instructions, technical tips on dancing Bachata.
This series go's from beginner to Master's level Bachata dancing.
This series gives away the secrets of Master level Bachata dancing.
This series is called Caribbean Bachata dancing but it also contains the steps of the two other authentic major styles of Bachata we know.
Each dvd is great value for money but we do recommend you buy the whole series to become the best Bachata dancer or teacher you can be.
These dvd's are the best quality & the longest instruction dvd's on the market.
The dvd's are so packed full of moves it will take you years to learn all the steps & tips.
This series is Real Bachata instruction not a Salsa Bachata mix.
This series contains tip's from one of the World's best Bachata dancers.
We had given up dancing in nightclub's because of the bad Salsa Bachata mix dancers dancers on the floor now.

Our review : This is a detailed instructional dvd. Clearly explaining all a beginner needs to know.
Front & back views. Demo's with music.
This dvd is better suited to absolute European beginners rather than hispanics as the teachers are ballroom trained.
But an enjoyable & good value for money dvd. I enjoyed this dvd.
Sorry about the youtube preview but it was the best I could find.

level : absolute beginners to advanced
This is a great dvd series from beginners to advanced dancers.
The advanced turns have a more USA nightclub feel than street Bachata.
Recommended series.
 

Learn to Dance Bachata: Volume 1 by Joe Baker; Sarah

Style : Mainly American fusion Bachata but shows the beginning steps for Merengue & Salsa as well.
Level : Absolute beginners.

This is a very good & detailed beginners intro to these dances.

I would call this dvd the "Salsacrazy" dvd of Bachata.
By that I mean it is taught by a Swing dance teacher who teaches the compete steps & counts.

I think for someone looking for a detailed & very good value intro into Bachata this is very good.

I would recommend this dvd mainly for the non hispanic/ non natural dancer market as the normal Bachata styling
is not taught too well & the teacher has a boring American style.
The style I will call American fusion Bachata as it includes steps not taught by in true Dominican style.

He is a very good teacher however.
For most students however this is the most detailed Bachata dvd on the market in 2007.

The beginners dvd by Jorge Elizondo is an enjoyable video of a Tejano style Bachata. I really enjoyed his Bachata dancing style.
The male has a lazy hip style which does not look like Bachata when the male dances alone but when he combines with the women
who does the traditional hip movement it all makes sense.
Jorge does teach the traditional male hip style however. He just does not use it himself in this dvd.
It is easy to learn & this dvd has enough steps to compete a full Bachata song.
This is a recommended Bachata dvd.

Joby is a well known LA style Salsa teacher and has had our respect for several years but in this dvd she lets herself down.
The instructional video section is suitable for absolute beginners. The Bachata instruction is the highlight of this section.
The other instructional sections were okay, nothing really different from other dvd's.
The workout section is badly thought out. Jody has chosen some terrible steps & patterns to perform in this section of this dvd.
The workout is not fun.
The dvd is a very good length & is good value for money however
unless you are looking for a good intro to Bachata I would look to buy other dvd's on the dance styles covered.
